Portrait of Right Now

I spent a lot of time this long weekend drawing a lot of one thing. This is not it.

Pencil Factory Draw Fest

Here are some scans of the collaborations we did last weekend. They went out to the first 100 orders of Newsprint (offer sold out). I'm not sure who remixed these, but I think most of them are me and Chris Neal, Josh Cochran, Rachel Salomon and PF intern Katie Turner. I just love some of these! More here.

The Connoisseur

In my humble opinion, one of the best things about New York is Street Treasure. People here place things out on the sidewalk, not as garbage necessarily, but with the full assumption that someone will likely pick it up... furniture, old computer stuff, etc. In fact, if it's NOT meant to be picked up, it'll be marked as such. (Broken. BEDBUGS.)

Found a bunch of late 1960s fashion and gossip rags the other day. DID YOU KNOW PAUL McCARTNEY AND JANE ASHER ON THE ROCKS?!! YES! AGAIN!

Colours

These are cut paper collage thingies.

News:

Had a few people forward me this! Cool. Even though the colour (since we're on the topic) is completely blown out and a piece of me dies every time I see it. Not to be dramatic about it or anything. Original.

Another note: I will be participating on yet another panel. This time about illustration, a topic I can say I feel relatively confident discussing (comics panels are another matter... I feel like an impostor and it's only a matter of time before someone in the back screams, "SHE DOESN'T KNOW WHAT SHE'S TALKING ABOUT!!!"). Anyhoo. If you want to come here are the details:

Queen of the Mountain

Oh lordy, busy busy around here.

There is a Society of Illustrators opening tomorrow. It's the Sequential show, which is traditionally very low-key. But here's the info anyway. I have a few pieces on view.

Mariko and I will appear on Shelagh Roger's CBC book show "The Next Chapter" on Jan 24. This is not 100% confirmed yet, but I thought I'd post it before I forget. Info, times, etc. here.

Also not 100% confirmed yet, but I believe Mariko and I will have a presence at TCAF. TCAF! Joy! More details later.

Hansel and Gretel

If there are two things Germans love, it's suffering and chocolate!

Here is a dissected Lebkuchen (spiced cake) box from my German mother-in-law depicting the story of Hansel and Gretel (click to enlarge). The doors pop open for interactive witch-burning.

Actually, speaking of Hansel and Gretel, I caught a broadcast of the Met Opera's production on PBS today... I am absolutely kicking myself for not seeing it when it opened last year. It was violent, surreal, and totally weird.
