More Stupidity

Still stuck in Union Square. But this time with a tie-in: if you are a Parsons Illustration student, apparently you can come to a talk that Sam Weber, Ted McGrath, and I am giving tomorrow (Wed) at George Bates' class. Info here.

Stupidity with Typography

Union Square thoughts. I really hate to be NY-centric, but I don't have thoughts or opinions about anything universal... just annoyances with the local.

Blossom Hat

Oh my goodness, this came dangerously close to one of those worshipful "Asian goddesses" drawings that are way way too prevalent these days (sorry guys, but it's true).

The Animated Life

After that last post, I thought this was appropriate. It's a small collection of short experimental animations that really highlight the power of The Incidental.
I think this must be the guy that did the animation that they play before all the movies at the IFC Center?
If you only watch one, I'd recommend this one.

Old School

Here are three illustrations I recently did for the Washington Post, to accompany an article about funny real estate stories (not an oxymoron!). I think they're sort of amusing because they're such traditional, old school-type illustrations. Like you wouldn't blink an eye if you saw them in an article from the 1960s or something. I actually used to do quite a few humorous type illustrations like this when I first graduated. Not so much anymore.

Goodbye, Hello

New sketchbook! At bottom! I guess I continued the jodphur'd lady theme, but I was listening to a Science radio show, so maybe that accounts for the math-y elements?
There really is nothing more hateful than starting a new sketchbook. I have to customize the fronts so I can tell them apart, as I always get those black open-flat ones. I think there's a psychological defacement that is also helpful. I don't really understand the need for fancy sketchbooks as I think they'd be more susceptible to overly precious sketchbooking.

Seurat

I'm going to try to see the Seurat drawing show tomorrow at the MoMA. I was sort of surprised, after reading the press surrounding the show, as to how exquisite his drawings are. It's funny your opinion can really change about someone's work as you develop as a creator and viewer. You can read about the show on the NYTimes site, and view an audio slideshow of the work. Particularly helpful if you can't see it in person; she sort of does a "virtual tour".
