Goodbye!

I'm off to Iceland tomorrow! Will not be posting while I'm there (2 weeks). Unless I find some fjordian wifi...

M. Kalman

Maira Kalman feature for the New York Times.

I really love this woman's work... it embodies a lot of the ideas I find interesting. Hopefully one day I will be able to incorporate more of that sense of chance and process into my "finished" work.

Foxy

For some reason, drawing this fox reminded me of my old videogame days.

I worked at Bioware in Edmonton, Alberta for a few years after graduating from art school. The project was "Jade Empire", which was a kung fu adventure set in fantasy-ish Ancient China. There were lots of animal spirits, including a fox demon which sparked the memory. I did mostly character stuff (texturing and modelling), including, but not exclusive to:

Hot Babes:

Love Interests (also hot, natch):

Manly Men:

and Innumerable weapons, environment textures, and faceless henchmen:

Couldn't find a pic of the fox lady though. She had furry boobs!

Black Study

Adventures in Black

I try not to be wimpy about the application of black. It's something I try to practice often. I think a lot of students are quite hesitant to use black since it's quite a commitment, especially if you're using pen and ink.

Although, I'm certainly no Mike Mignola (obvs).

Down with Summer

So it was rainy yesterday and somewhat chillier today! I kind of hate summer–Summertime here in NY is too hot and too long– so this is welcome news.

My sister Lauren is here visiting NY. But she forgot her camera yesterday. So we drew the day. Hopefully you can read it; click for larger view.
